I am so glad you are here! I am Sharra (share-uh) and I’ve been fortunate to live in the beautiful bluff country of southeastern Minnesota for the last 12 years. I was raised near Colorado Springs, Colorado and went to college in Washington State. Besides an overwhelming amount of student loans, the University of Puget Sound also introduced me to my husband, Len! We’ve been in love since 1994 and have been married for 17 years, which is just crazy because I’m not more than 28, which means I must be a genius who got through college in record time! Len is a Lutheran pastor in the middle of the farmlands in rural Minnesota and we couldn’t be more blessed to know all of the wonderful people in this community.
I still remember my first camera – a beautiful hot-pink flat film camera. I took many forgettable pictures with that baby, but I’ve always been drawn to how photography freezes a moment, no matter what that moment is like. In an image, a person will always be young or old and they will always be feeling the exact same thing that they were feeling at that moment. Relationships are captured and so is beauty in all forms. I’ve discovered I can see and capture a whole other world of emotions through photography.
I feel called to capture the relationships and emotions of all people, and also particularly enjoy photographing people with special needs and the families who love and care for them. To me as a mom of a child with special needs, I know how much poignancy there is in that connection. Because of the care that is required, these relationships are filled with emotions of every kind and they are not always pretty, but I want to capture the beauty that I have felt myself in these fleeting moments of uninhibited joy.
I chose the name Fearfully and Wonderfully Made Photography from the words in Psalm 139:14 where the writer says to God ” For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Fearfully means “in awe of” or in other words, AWESOME! Through my photography I would like to celebrate how God made all children wonderful and awesome.
My day-to-day life includes a lot of chaos, coffee and earplugs! But I find my peace behind my camera and the images I can capture through it. I hope you will be a part of my journey!
